New building better for GACCC
To the editor: Recently there have been articles written about the future of Green Acres Country Care Center. I am the activity director at Green Acres, and I would like to express my views about the proposed new building and building sight. Green Acres is a beautiful place to work. It is peaceful and quiet out there among the trees. It is not unlike my home that sits among trees. I personally enjoy the quiet setting. I do however understand the reason that Green Acres new building should be moved to a more visible area. Steve Mork works closely with the head staff at Green Acres. He has been doing his best to keep us informed of what the reasons are for wanting to move Green Acres from its current location to a more visible location along county 68. This is not a move that was decided over night. Surveys were done with the older population and they were the ones who would like to stay closer to the community and be closer to community happenings, stores and other things to keep the action in their lives. Green Acres needs to be visible for staffing purposes, visibility is important for occupancy. People driving on 35 and 95 would know Green Acres is a beautiful place. Not only would people be interested in living there, they would be interested in working there. I, being the activities director, know how important it is to be among the community and not just hid away and forgotten. Our residents really enjoy getting out and doing things in the community. It would be so nice for them to be among a more lively setting and be able to see more community things going on. We need a clinic attached to the nursing home. It would be so wonderful to take the residents to their appointments in one building and not have to dress them and take them on a long van ride somewhere. This would be especially nice because it seems we have more winter in Minnesota than we do summer. The van rides can be long and tiring. In my professional view, the move to a new location for Green Acres is exactly what we need. A new building with the same loving staff makes for an even better Green Acres Country Care Center.
