Desperately need new school
To the editor: I am writing to ask the citizens of the North Branch School District to please vote YES on Nov. 5. We desperately need a new school building for our children! My daughter currently attends the Intermediate School, which is the classroom space leased from Trinity Lutheran Church. Though I realize the school did the very best they could finding room to house our children, this is an unacceptable situation for the students. Repeatedly my daughter has complained about the lack of playground at the site. I know that when I was in fifth grade, I certainly had a playground to play on during recess. It saddens me to think of third, fourth and fifth graders going outside after lunch and not having swings or monkey bars to use. The leased space also lacks a library, gymnasium, and adequate kitchen/lunchroom facilities. I was shocked to find out that when a funeral is held at the church, our kids have to eat their lunches at their desks. The kids also complain about feeling alienated from the rest of the school. My daughter misses her friends, since most are not at the intermediate site. As a parent, I feel that this is such an important time to establish friendships that will carry the kids through middle and high school. This has been very challenging for me, trying to find extra-curricular activities to get my daughter connected with her friends. I want better than this for my daughter and for all of the other children in our school district. Please, think about our kids and vote YES on Nov. 5. Tonia Herdina North Branch, MN
