George Bailey in Chisago County

To the editor:
Each holiday season I look forward to watching one of my favorite movies, ìItís a Wonderful Lifeî starring Jimmy Stewart. Itís a great reminder that if our motives are pure and we put others first, our life can make a profound difference for individuals, and in George Baileyís case, an entire community.
Pete Nelson is George Bailey personified. How do I know? Well, Iíve known him much longer, but for over 10 years heís been delivering food items to my home for me, and what wonderful visits we have.
After serving his country, Pete came home and instead of pursuing his own career path; he honored his fatherís request to help out for a short time at the family market. Instead of finding reasons to leave, he kept finding reasons to stay. Today, Peteís the one running the meat market and his 89-year-old father is the one helping out! The awards on the walls of the butcher shop tell the story; he applies excellence to everything he commits to.
Pete has spent a life, mostly behind the scenes or anonymously giving to everyone else, especially helping kids and community. I happen to know that he helps some groups under one condition, that they donít thank him publicly. Whether coaching, donating food for fund-raisers, building the hockey arena, serving on Chisago County committees and now as our mayor, our lives have all been enriched.
We are so lucky to have someone like this who will represent us at the capital instead of for self-serving purposes. There really is a George Bailey and his name is Pete Nelson. Do yourself a favor this November, watch the movie and vote for Pete.
