Vote for Monica Abress in 17B

To the editor:
Abress is my choice for state representative. I am a teacher, an environmentalist, a homeowner, and active in my community. Monica Abress has the endorsement of Education Minnesota because she shares my and our commitment to quality education. Monica Abress has the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters because she shares my and our commitment to conservation and protection of the environment. Monica Abress has many other endorsements, including labor. She also was selected as Chisago Countyís Township Official of the Year. Moreover, she is involved in her community. She has the strong endorsement of Sen. Twyla Ring, Congressman Jim Oberstar, and many of the leaders in our community because she is the best choice for House District 17B.
I realize that her opponent is a life-long resident of the community and is also involved in the community. But he is also endorsed by the Republican party, a party that pushed for legislation and tax cuts that have put almost every school district in the state in a financial crisis. This has forced a record number of districts to go to taxpayers to seek operating levies.
In two short years the state of Minnesota has gone from a record surplus to an anticipated deficit of $2.5 billion to $3.6 billion after failing to balance the current biennium. Look at our unemployment. It has doubled and is now the highest in 20 years.
In addition, Republican policies have resulted in the loss of millions in federal transportation funding. Enough is enough!
When you go to the polls, vote for the candidate that can help end this negative spiral, help our community, and will work for quality education, protection of the environment, and sound fiscal policies that will balance our budget. Vote Monica Abress for 17B.
