George E. Larsen

George Emery Larsen died at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Rush City on Sept. 30, 2002, having reached the age of 88 years.
Funeral service was at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City with Pastor Greg Gritz officiating. Organist was Dianne Kirchberg and vocalists were Gene and Karen Carlson. Casket bearers were Bruce Larsen, Dan Miller, Kevin Hogan, Chris Miller, Brenden Bolling, and Cliff Nelson. Military rites were by the Grothe-Jacobson VFW Post #6692 and the United States Navy. Interment was at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City. George, the son of William and Inez (Gibson) Larsen, was born January 3, 1914 in Minneapolis, Minn.
He grew up in Rush City, Minn., but as a teenager moved to Laona, Wisc. While living there he attended high school in Blackwell and worked at the logging mill.
George met Jane Gentz of Blackwell, and they were married in 1937. In 1941 they moved to Milwaukee, Wisc.
During World War II, George served in the United States Navy. He joined the military in September of 1943 and received his honorable discharge in November of 1945. Upon his return to civilian life, he was employed at American Can Company in Milwaukee.
In 1969, George married Evelyn Gronlund of Rush City. They made their home in Milwaukee until George retired in 1976, at which time they returned to Rush City to live.
George is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Lucy Patin and Lois Larsen, both of Milwaukee, Carol and Kevin Hogan, West Bend, Wisc., Arlette and Dan Miller, Beroun, Minn., and Linette Pinkard of Florida; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law: Ruby and Manfred Nelson, Minneapolis, Minn.; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. His parents, William and Inez Larsen; his wife, Evelyn; daughter, Cathy Lidtke; son, William; sisters, Lucy Ogren and Eudora Kotke; and his brothers, Truls and Hugh Larsen preceded him in death.
