Clarence J. Harer
Clarence Joseph Harer died peacefully in his sleep at his farm home on Oct. 1, 2002. He was 83 years of age. A graveside service was Saturday, Oct. 5, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Harris with the Reverend Laurie OíShea officiating. Honorary casket bearers were Ken Wicklund, Carl Lofgren, and Arvid Lofgren. Arrangements were by the Olson Chapel, Funeral & Cremation Service, Rush City, Minn. Clarence, the only child born to Joseph and Mary (Weskie) Harer, was born Feb. 3, 1919 in Rushseba Township, Chisago County, Minn. He grew up on the family farm and left home at an early age to begin farming with his uncle. In the mid-1940ís, he purchased a farm northwest of Harris, Minn. that the Lindholm family had homesteaded. He loved the land and lived there for the rest of his life. Clarence and Genevieve Peterson were united in marriage on Jan. 15, 1955. They made their home on the Harer farm where they raised their three children, Richard, Steven, and Belinda. Although most of his time was spent tending the farm, Clarence enjoyed teaching his boys to hunt and fish. Later on the small joys in life became important to him as he enjoyed visiting with family, friends, and neighbors, being outdoors, and spending time with his pets. He is survived by his children: Belinda Harer, Chisholm, Minn., Richard and Cheryl Harer, Andover, Minn., and Steven and Debra Harer, Pine City, Minn.; and his grandchildren: Chris, Brandon, and Kassie Harer, Justin, Brynna, Kylie, and Elijah Harer. His parents, Joseph and Mary Harer, and his wife, Genevieve, preceded him in death.
