Supports new Green Acres plan
To the editor: I have provided psychological services to residents at Green Acres Country Care Center for the past seven years. While I provide similar services to over 30 nursing homes in greater Minnesota from the Associated Clinic of Psychology of Minneapolis, I have not seen any plan to compare with the attractive new Green Acres campus proposal near the Tanger Outlet Mall in North Branch. After reviewing the comprehensive plan submitted by Green Acres to the Minnesota State Legislature, I am very impressed, not only with the user-friendly continuum of care for seniors. But also for the important inclusion of the medical center that will make clinical and diagnostic services available from a team of physicians. The addition of an assisted living facility compliments the nursing home campus. Another notable feature of this proposed new campus for Green Acres residents is to offer local access for shopping, groceries and entertainment. One very important aspect of services for seniors is to keep them close to the community with a continuum of services to prevent isolation and alienation. At this point, the old campus of Green Acres, though beautiful with aging pine trees, is isolated from the North Branch community and neighboring services. I believe this is detrimental to seniorsí physical and mental health. I support and encourage this new campus as conducive to the medical, social and emotional needs of this population. Green Acres is to be complimented on this new venture for the care of seniors in the area surrounding North Branch. James J. Prokop, Psy. D., Licensed Psychologist, L.I.C.S.W.
