Nelson earned his vote for Nov. 5
To the editor: I have to say that I agree with last weekís letter by David Todd about Pete Nelson being experienced in applying growth management tools to the issues we face here. Iíve served with Pete Nelson, candidate for House of Representative for District 17B (most of Chisago County), on a task force commissioned to study transfer of development rights and credits. Itís one example of what heís been doing for this county all along. Basically, it allows a farmer to sell his land and enjoy his well-deserved retirement, but the developer is allowed to land swap the green open space for a spot closer to town where services and utilities are. Our countryside stays green and open, and our taxes are held down because our services and infrastructure are not sprawled out all over. The approach is complicated, but there are many successful models our group studied. In the end, we convinced the Chisago County planning commission and board of commissioner to adopt the transfer of development credit ordinance. His leadership at the meetings was so invaluable we found ourselves setting meetings around his availability. There are lots of good people who are willing to work hard, but goodness and gumption canít substitute for knowledge, experience, strong leadership and a proven track record for getting things done. All the good guys in the world still lack one quality - they havenít earned our vote like Pete has. Pete, you can make things happen for us and youíve got my vote. V. Wayne Buisman Harris
