Never been better time to vote yes
To the editor: Our failure to pass last yearís referendum for our schools has left its mark. To those who believed the schools would figure something out, I hope seeing us, the taxpayers, having to pay out hundreds of thousands of dollars to lease space from Trinity Lutheran Church - and having nothing to show in the end for all that money - was proof that the schools really did need space for our kids, a lot of space. I canít even imagine what will happen if this referendum doesnít pass this fall. We are already leasing the maximum amount of space that the state will let us. And, Trinity does have its own plans for the building and expects us out in a few years. I have two children, one of which is in school and the other soon will be. If the referendum doesnít pass, I know class sizes will increases significantly. This definitely impacts opportunities for individual help and stretches teachers to the breaking point. I want my children to have the very best public education experience I can make available to them. You should want that, too. There perhaps has never been a better time or better reason to insure that we have competent, capable and well-rounded students coming out of our schools. Out country is going to need the best and brightest business people, doctors, politicians, engineers, scientists, mathematicians, educators and all other kinds of workers to secure their futures . . . and ours. I had great teachers and great public schools when I was growing up. I hope you did, too. My parents and my community knew the importance of a good education. And now . . . itís pay back time. Join me in voting YES for the school referendum on Nov. 5. Michael A. DeVault North Branch
