Why lay blame at Republicans feet
To the editor: On 9/25/02 in your ìLetters from Readersî section you printed a letter from Mr. Dennis Odin Johnsonİwho was particularly offensive in his discourse.İ While one might feel it both clever and safe to bash Republicans in a region that has seen very few Republicans, his rhetoric tookİ about asİmuch courage as it would take toİbash Tibetans in China. For the record, there have been virtually no Republicans within this district, county, or the entire state for that matter, who have had a serious chance at governance within the lastİ35 years.İAs a result, it is quite an exercise in creative thinking to lay the blame for any problems that may exist within this region at Republicansí feet. Regarding Johnsonís issue with Pete Nelsonís ìFour Point Transportation Planî which contained only three points; I can think of a dozen reasons for a typographical error ofİthis nature, only one of which includes any shortcoming on Mr. Nelsonís part. I would list all 13 reasons, butİdecline for fear that I might be brutally castigated if one of themİis omitted at no fault of my own. As to the merits of his support for Monica Abress, Johnsonİcited onlyİgeneralized platitudes. Abress may very well be a strong candidate for this position, but Johnsonİdid nothing to makeİthis point. On the contrary, heİoffended so mightily that he may have actually cost Abress some votes. Finally, before Mr. Johnson gets too excited, I was referring to a bakers dozen, of course! Philip R.
