Why lay blame at Republicans feet

To the editor:
On 9/25/02 in your ìLetters from Readersî section you printed a letter from Mr. Dennis Odin JohnsonÝwho was particularly offensive in his discourse.Ý While one might feel it both clever and safe to bash Republicans in a region that has seen very few Republicans, his rhetoric tookÝ about asÝmuch courage as it would take toÝbash Tibetans in China.
For the record, there have been virtually no Republicans within this district, county, or the entire state for that matter, who have had a serious chance at governance within the lastÝ35 years.ÝAs a result, it is quite an exercise in creative thinking to lay the blame for any problems that may exist within this region at Republicansí feet.
Regarding Johnsonís issue with Pete Nelsonís ìFour Point Transportation Planî which contained only three points; I can think of a dozen reasons for a typographical error ofÝthis nature, only one of which includes any shortcoming on Mr. Nelsonís part. I would list all 13 reasons, butÝdecline for fear that I might be brutally castigated if one of themÝis omitted at no fault of my own.
As to the merits of his support for Monica Abress, JohnsonÝcited onlyÝgeneralized platitudes. Abress may very well be a strong candidate for this position, but JohnsonÝdid nothing to makeÝthis point. On the contrary, heÝoffended so mightily that he may have actually cost Abress some votes.
Finally, before Mr. Johnson gets too excited, I was referring to a bakers dozen, of course!
