Vikes take top spots at invitational

If the underclassmen continue to turn in performances such as those at last weekís cross country invitationals, the future of North Branchís program looks bright.
As junior Katie Hasleiet led the team with a second place finish for girlís varsity and senior Ryan Smith was fifth for the varsity boys, the seventh and eighth grade squads fared even better.
The seventh grade girls and eighth grade boys both captured first place at the Chisago Lakes Invitational Sept. 26.
The girls were led by Caitlynn Forrest in first (9:05), Rachel Souther in second (9:14) and Amanda Peterson in third (9:15).
JJ Koerber took his second first place of the week at Chisago, finishing at 7:17 for the eighth grade team. Nick Ramberg was second at 7:34.
The eighth grade girls also did well, led by Kelsey Lloyd in first at 8:57.
For varsity, Betsy Hammer (19:04) and Sam Suparat (19:16) took 11th in their respective races. The varsity boys team placed third out of four teams in the meet.
Koerber also took first in the junior high race at the Hudson Invite Sept. 24. Ramberg was second in that race as well.
In the junior high girls race, Amanda Peterson was second and Tiffany Peterson was fourth. Souther took fifth, Aileen Shanley was sixth and Buckingham was seventh.
Hasleiet once again turned in the best girls varsity finish, coming in eighth. Smith led the boys with a 13th place finish.
This week, the team was scheduled to race in an invite at Becker Monday, and takes part in one of the stateís largest meets Saturday, the Swain Invite in Duluth.
