Disappointing loss for Tigers football
The Rush City High School football team suffered a disappointing loss last Friday to Ogilvie. While the Lions were pretty evenly matched by the Tigers, penalties against Rush City helped pave the way to the loss. Coming off a charged homecoming victory last week, the Tigers traveled to Ogilvie to face the Lions in what ended as a 19-14 loss in the scorebooks. Highlighting the game was junior running back Tim Karnickís show with two touchdown runs of 34 yards and 65 yards. Karnick went a game total of 163 yards on the night. Defensive kudos went to sophomore Dan Gamache who netted 23 tackles. Senior guard Mike Shively and junior tight end Andrew Kaufmann took down 16 Lions each. Senior guard David Allerton added to the Tiger defensive drive with 13 tackles and junior Brent Freeman knocked down 12 Lions for the night. Freeman and Kaufmann both pulled down an interception each. ìWe played well both offensively and devensively,î said head coach Gary Wendorf. Wendorf said turnovers and penalties marred the Tigers performance. ìWe need to cut down on our penalties and weíll be OK.î The Tigers record fell to 1-4 on the season and 1-3 in the conference after the match-up. Rush City will host East Central during a home game Oct. 4. The following week, the team travels to Braham to face the Bombers on their turf. Last year, the East Central Eagles took advantage of a strong passing offense to shut out the Tigers 26-0.
