Stacy may not raise water, sewer rates
By Barbara Brown The Stacy City Council may not increase water and sewer rates until after the October billing cycle. The council decided at its last meeting to set aside a possible water and sewer rates increase until the next payments are received. The cityís water and sewer coffers donít look as dry as previously reported. City Clerk Sharon Payne had been instructed to move money from the water and sewer accounts to pay the debt service on city bonds. However, Payne said she had not been told to only transfer the money when the cityís account ran low. ěIt was an accounting mistake,î she said. ěNone of the accounts were missing any money.î Now the account shows the water and sewer fund with a $30,000 positive balance. Also at that meeting, Harry Dyson was appointed to the cityís planning commission. Currently, the commission is discussing how it could develop a central business district along County Road 19. Preliminary discussions are circling around how to disallow residential houses in that area after current residents move out. The commission is looking at keeping a quaint, small-town feel like in Stillwater while still encouraging business development.
