RC administrator recommends affordable housing subdivision

By MaryHelen Swanson
The goal is to create a subdivision in cooperation with Community Housing Partnership in Minnesota with homes that new and first-time buyers can afford.
Rush City Administrator Daniel Hoffman explained his recommendation at the council meeting Monday night.
He said a subdivision could be created near the Jay Addition on the south end of town, with lots selling for around $15,000 and new homes built for around $85,000.
Eligible applicants would then be able to apply for assistence through a housing down payment grant program.
Potentially, new and first time buyers under this program could be looking at home ownership for around $80,000, Hoffman noted.
The council also learned that the fire department received a $4,279.41 federal grant for the purchase of wildlife fire equipment, thanks to the efforts to seek the grant by Fire Chief Bob Carlson.
The council also set a special meeting for 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12 to work on the 2003 budget and city levy.
The council members received the 2001 financial statements for review. They will be discussed in October.
