Vote for Pete Nelson in November
To the editor: One of the nice things about living in Chisago County is that while others see this as a vacation destination, we get to enjoy it year around. But, like Creeping Charlie, things like urban sprawl, polluted water, high-density cookie cutter housing and ugly high voltage power lines have the potential of taking us over. Being one of the top five fastest growing counties in the state, we could become like so many other communities where growth snuck up on ill-equipped, inexperienced and unsuspecting public officials. While they learn the process their good intentions and immature decisions can ruin the only chance to get it right because our tax dollars, natural resources and viewscapes canít be brought back. Elected officials say they will fight for this and fight for that, but they arenít familiar with the growth management tools that have been used successfully elsewhere. They want in the ring, they have their gloves on, but when the bell rings, they donít know how to throw a punch, let alone land one. Iím writing to say that Pete Nelson is a trained fighter in these areas. Even though we canít lawfully keep growth out, there are smart ways to control its impact and intrusiveness. Not only does Pete know about these methods, heís been using them to help this area for years. Pete is running for the State House of Representatives position for Chisago County and we really need his experience in our corner. What he has already accomplished for this county is incredible. What he could do for us by having a position at the capitol would be even greater. I canít say Iím fond of politicians, heaven knows Iíve never written a letter about one. But Iíve been a customer of Peteís for years and even though heís the mayor of Lindstrom, heís not a career politician. Thatís why Pete is the kind of guy we need in politics, someone whoís been solving problems with common sense and wonít get caught up in the nonsense. Do us all a favor and vote for Pete Nelson in November. David J. Todd Scandia
