TIGERS 27, PANTHERS 22
By Barbara Brown The first quarter of the Rush City homecoming game against Onamia was uneventful. But that situation changed drastically in the second corner when the Tigers rushed practically from out of nowhere to quickly dominate the game. The Tigers pulled off a 27-22 homecoming win. Coach Gary Wendorf congratulated not only the four players who scored touchdowns, but especially recognized blocking for creating a zone for quarterback Kellin Sybrant to make good passes. ěThe offensive line blocked well the first half and gave Kellin time to throw,î Wendorf said. The second quarter of the game brought three touchdowns. Senior Craig Bengtson scored on a 20-yard reception. Junior Willie Barth made an amazing 47-yard touchdown catch and junior Tim Karnick scored on a 20-yard run. An interception by junior Brent Freeman set up the teamís second touchdown. His own five-yard touchdown run secured the win and, with extra points from kicker junior Tim Morris, the game ended 27-22 in favor of the Tigers. Sybrant had two touchdown passes and 123 total passing yards. Karnick had 83 rushing yards. Barth ran for 50 yards and Freeman had nine tackles. Senior Mike Shively had 13 tackles to lead the Tiger defense. Morris and senior guard Robert Lind had seven tackles each. Two of Lindís tackles were quarterback sacks. The win, the first of the season for the Tigers, takes the team record to 1-2 in the conference and 1-3 overall, securing fifth place of seven conference teams for the Tigers. The next game is at Ogilvie on Friday and the team will return home Oct. 4 to face East Central.
