Tennis wins two

The North Branch Vikings girls tennis team pulled off two solid wins last week against St. Francis and North St. Paul.
In the Aug. 27 match against St. Francis, the team ended up winning 5-2.
In singles competition, all four North Branch competitors soundly defeated their opponents.
No. 1 single Christina Sampson, a senior, beat Jennie Kise in a 6-1, 6-2 upset.
The No. 2 match pitted junior Shannon OíHern against Jenna Grams, a senior, and ended with a 6-2,6-1 win for OíHern.
Maren Anderson, a junior, faced Misty Owen, also a junior, and won her bouts 6-1, 6-2.
Freshman Chantell Sampson beat junior Anoria Johnson 6-0, 6-1.
For doubles, three of four sets went to St. Francis.
Brooke Chambers and Lindsey Bond, both juniors, faced Amber Hanson and Brielle Blanchette, both seniors, and fell 4-6, 3-6.
In No. 2 doubles, Helena Graff, a senior, partnered with Felicia Dehart. The pair lost to seniors Krista Ganer and Melissa Murray 6-7 (3-7, 4-6.
Lynsey Studer and Danielle Wilkerson took on Kasey Searcy and Alesha Geslin and came out victors with 6-2, 6-3 wins.
In the extra doubles set, Nicole Granberg and Hanna Lindberg, juniors, faced sophomores Jessica Borshner and Rachael Johnson and lost 6-6 (5-7), 1-6.
Only a couple days later, North Branch took on North St. Paul.
The match came down nearly to the last minute as the score was tied 3-3 as the third doubles finished its second set.
Wilkerson and Studer ìkept cool and clam,î said coach Shelley Alvin.
The pairís set ended 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, winning the set and the match.
Sampson defeated Kate Hohenstein 6-0, 6-0; OíHern won against Komal Desai, 6-1, 6-2; Anderson won against Nehal Desai 6-4, 6-1 and Sampson lost to Azerb Nigatu 3-6, 1-6.
Graff and Dehart moved up to No. 1 doubles for the day and lost their sets 3-6, 1-6. Chambers and Granberg partnered up for No. 2 doubles and lost their sets 2-6, 2-6.
Lindberg and Bond, in the extra set defeated their opponents 8-5, 8-6.
The wins take the team record to 8-4.
