Rush City students welcomed by new logo
By Barbara Brown Rush City middle school and high school students were welcomed by a new, fierce looking logo emblazoned across a wall in the commons area of the high school this week. Last year, students voted on which logo they wanted for their school from a ballot of three. The most aggressive looking logo won the vote and the school immediately began changing letter head, merchandise and made plans to have the old, gentler Tiger logo repainted. Local sign artist Steve Faragher was awarded the contract to paint the new logo on the commons wall. After painting over the old logo with white paint, Faragher set up an overhead projector with an outline of the logo on it. The overhead was enlarged to actual size and aimed at the wall. Faragher said he started painting the new tiger last Friday, using not only the overhead, but a full-color print-out of the logoís colors. He also used a calendar that featured tigers so that he could make references and stay truer to the animalís coloring. Faragher also painted two new logos on the floor of the gymnasium. He said those tigers are more orange than the official one on the wall because of the type of paint he had to use. He said special, durable paint was required because of the sealant used on the gym floor and the fact that the painting would be walked on. The logo was finished by the time students entered school Tuesday.
