Tiger volleyball brings home win to open season

By Barbara Brown
The Rush City High School volleyball team blew Barnum off the court last week when the team opened its season with a big win.
The Tigers hosted the Bombers Aug. 27 for a home match-up that left the Bombers bummed out after 15-5, 15-2, 13-15, 19-17 games.
While the Tigers started out very strong, quickly putting to rest any idea that Barnum would dominate the match, the team lost concentration in the third game.
Coach Michele Dinius said the team did a great job of pulling their focus back and concentrating on playing well for the fourth game.
That fourth game was a close one with Barnum hanging on to the third game victory and Rush City trying to battle back and avoid a tied-up situation.
ìIt was a team victory,î she added.
Senior Jess Prettner pulled off an impressive 16 kills, 13 digs, two solo blocks and three service aces.
Kudos also went out from Dinius to Maria Kuhlman who knocked down 13 kills of her own, had 17 digs, three solo blocks and four service aces.
Showing strength as a setter, Breann Stottler shined with 24 set assists, 11 digs and two service aces.
The team took on Hinckley-Finlayson Tuesday night and was scheduled to host Braham Thursday night, both are conference match-ups.
