Gary W. Lerud

Gary Wayne Lerud of Rush City, Minn., was born in Detroit Lakes, Minn. 52 years ago, and passed from this world April 1, 2003.
Gary moved to Maplewood, Minn. when he was 15 and attended the Roseville school district. In 1966 he met and later married Jan Peiffer in 1970. They made their first home in Vadnais Heights where their two children, Guy and Kari, were born. Always loving the country, Gary moved his family to Stacy, Minn. where he began building his dream of raising and showing Arabian horses. This went on for 20 years and then the horses were traded for his beloved motorcycle. He and his wife would take weekend trips whenever possible during the summer.
Gary was extremely proud of his children and when the grandchildren arrived, he was beside himself with love and pride. He spent most of his spare time recently helping his son build a house in Wisconsin where he had dreams of building one for he and his wife on the same acreage as his sonís. His goal was to move his daughter and grandson there also, so everyone could be together.
One of the things that will always be remembered is how Gary would tease everyone. If you didnít get pinched or teased, you knew something was wrong. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could bring anyone out of a bad mood. He had a way with words that only Gary had. The doors were always open at the Lerud household; Gary never turned anyone away. If something was needed, Gary did his best to help out. He was a great and loyal friend.
He is loved and will be missed by his wife Jan; his son Guy, daughter-in-law Lara, granddaughters Aimmee and Jessee; his daughter Kari, grandson Tyler; his twin sister Cheryl and her family; brothers David and Paul and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, sister- and brother-in-laws and their families. Gary has made the world a much better place for many, and will live on in their hearts and memories.
The family would like to give their thanks to all that have sent cards, memorials, and prayers, and to those especially that braved the bad weather to come to say goodbye.
Funeral services for Gary Lerud were held Thursday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City with Rev. Laurie OíShea officiating. Honorary Casket Bearers included Jason Hyde, Jace Peiffer, Tony LaChapelle and David Lerud.
