Tigers looking for first win

The Rush City baseball team is struggling to come up with its first win after an 0-3 start to open the season.
While the team has played solid defense in two of those games, the squad has found little success at the plate. Last week, the Tigers fell 5-2 to Barnum Monday and 6-2 to Braham the following day. The team tallied only 9 hits in both games combined.
One bad inning was all it took for Barnum to capitalize and chalk up four runs against the Tigers. Barnum came up with five hits in a row for 4 runs in the third inning, all coming with two outs.
Dustin Willert took the loss, going seven innings for the Tigers. He gave up all five runs on 7 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. ìHe pitched seven very good innings of baseball in his first extended play of the season,î Head Coach Bob Schlagel said.
Schlagel was pleased with another solid defensive showing from the Tigers. ìWe did not beat ourselves with errors,î he said. But we need to become more patient and disciplined at the plate.î
The Tigers had only one error in the game. Offensively, junior Kellin Sybrant had 2 hits and one RBI.
Senior Derek Benson pitched a complete game for the 6-2 loss against Braham. This time, Rush City was also hurt by committing six errors.
Benson looked strong on the mound, allowing only 7 hits and recording 10 strikeouts. He also led the offense with a double and single.
The team is 0-3 overall, 0-1 in the conference.
