Boys take second at opening meet

The Rush City boys golf squad was able to squeeze in a round of golf on the opening day of their regular season, but lightning prevented the girls golf squad from doing the same.
The Tiger boys completed nine holes at Grand National Golf Course in Hinckley April 15 to start the year, but none of the four girls teams at the meet were able to finish.
The girls half of the meet was postponed to April 29, when Rush City is already slated to be at Hinckley for a dual meet.
The boys team took second place in the four-team meet, with a round total of 189. Hinckley-Finlayson captured first place with a round of 166, with East Central finishing in third with 198 and Braham in last with 201.
For Rush City, junior Brandon Rands led the team with a 44. Chris Lindstrom finished with a 47, Willie Barth completed the round with a 48 and Shaun Twingstrom was fourth for the team with a 50.
Also completing the round for the Tigers were Chris Sorenson with a 54 and Tim Morris with a 56.
Randís 44 was the fourth best overall score at the meet, and the highlight of the meet for Rush City.
Head Coach Wayne Peshia was not disappointed with the start, considering the team has seen very little time on the course this season. ěThose were pretty good scores for awful weather ń cold and windy,î he said.
The boys were scheduled to take part in the Pine City Scramble April 17, but it was postponed due to inclement weather. This week, both squads will participate in a conference meet at Purple Hawk in Cambridge today, April 23, and a meet at Isle Thursday.
