Maurice Sjoquist
Maurice Melvin Sjoquist, 78, died peacefully at Abbot Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. on Saturday, April 19, 2003. Maurice was born in North Branch, Minn. on March 13, 1925 to Ernest and Mary Sjoquist. He was raised in North Branch and attended North Branch High School. Maurice served his country by enlisting in the Army in February 1951. After his honorable discharge in January 1953, he met his wife, Alice D. Anderson of North Branch. Alice and Maurice were married on May 21, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch. Maurice and Alice created a loving home for themselves and their three children, Brian, Russ and Mary. He taught their children lessons that have helped them succeed in life. Maurice had several talents ñ farmer, carpenter, machinist and do-it-yourselfer. Above all, he enjoyed working with his church, Spring Lake Lutheran. Maurice worked at Branch Manufacturing for 24 years before his retirement in 1990. Maurice and Alice have enjoyed traveling to Sweden to trace their family lineage, as well as traveling to many other destinations within the United States. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Mary Sjoquist, two brothers, Earl and Vernon Sjoquist. Maurice is survived by his loving wife, Alice; daughter Mary Shipp and her husband Don; and grandson David Shipp; one brother Philip and his wife, Regina; many neices, nephews, sisters- and brothers-in-law and their families. Visitation is at Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch, Wednesday, April 23, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church on April 24, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tim Bjorge officiating. Vocalist is Jon Ekstrom and organist is Crystal Peterson. Interment will be at Spring Lake Lutheran Church Cemetery.
