Dora B. Johnson
Dora Bernice Johnson, age 84, of Rush City, Minn., died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Rush City. She was born May 5, 1918 in Wyoming, Minn., and was the daughter of Sam and Emma (Koppler) Olson. Her father was well known locally as an auctioneer. Dora was baptized in the home of H. Knedel of Wyoming on Sept. 29, 1918. She attended elementary school at Day, Minn., walking one and one-half miles to and from school each day. She graduated from Cambridge High School in Cambridge, Minnesota in 1935. In 1939, Dora was united in marriage to Lennard Johnson at Rush Point, Minnesota. They made their home on the Johnson family farm near Rush City and together they raised their children, Leland and Dennis. Dora worked at the Rush City Co-op Store until she became employed at the Rush City Hospital. She worked there as a licensed practical nurse until the hospital closed 43 years later. At that time she continued working and was employed through the Green Thumb Program. Always a busy person, Dora continued working until failing health caused her to retire. She was an active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Chisago County Historical Society. She enjoyed music, baking, cooking, gardening, and entertaining people in her home. Her greatest joy, however, was time spent with her family and caring for her grandchildren. Doraís greatest gifts were the love and kindness she extended to her family and friends, and her love of God. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Dennis andChristine Johnson of Rush City; grandchildren: Stephanie (Timothy) Bennett, Michael Johnson, and Tyler Johnson; great grandchild: Tristen; stepmother: Geneva Olson, Chaska, Minnesota; sister-in-law: Aileen Olson, Rush City; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Emma Olson; her husband, Lennard; her son, Leland; her grandchildren, Patrick and Christine Johnson; and her brothers, Homer and Orrin Olson. Family and friends celebrated Doraís life during a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City with the Reverend Laurie OíShea officiating. Organist Anita Ryberg, and vocalists Muriel Bungert and Fred Meissner provided music. Casket bearers were Gene Johnson, Alan Johnson, Larry Miller, Lee Olson, Mark Olson. and Loring Olson. Interment was at First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City. Arrangements were by the Olson Chapel, Funeral and Cremation Service, Rush City, Minn.
