Irene M. Holt Lomker
Irene Margaret (Holt) Lomker, age 100, died April 6, 2003 at Green Acres County Care Center, North Branch. She was born January 5, 1903, in Center City, Minn. and was the third child of Charles A. and Julia Holt of North Branch, Minn. After graduation from North Branch High School, she earned a teaching degree at Saint Cloud Teachers College and taught in elementary schools until her marriage to Thomas Lomker. The couple then lived and worked in the Spokane, Washington area from 1938 to 1971 when Tom passed away. Irene continued to live in their home until 1990 when she returned to North Branch to spend her remaining days. She resided in her own apartment until she was 96 years old. Irene had a lifelong love of music and enjoyed playing organ music into her nineties. She had a good memory and she thoroughly enjoyed all the company and cards she received at her recent 100th birthday party including one from President and Mrs. Bush. She was much loved by her family of nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed. She is survived by one sister, Mildred Newstrom of Saint Cloud, Minn. and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Raymond, Henry, Allen, John, and Bill. Interment of Ireneís cremains will be in Spokane Memorial Gardens next to her husband. A memorial service will be held at the Green Acres Country Care Chapel on Saturday, May 3 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon. All are welcome.
