Land deal pondered

By MaryHelen Swanson
The Chisago County Board of Commissioners is sitting on a proposal this week that could significantly turn the tide on a decision on the new nursing home and government center planned for construction in North Branch.
The Clayton Anderson family of North Branch has not only offered to sell acreage for a new Green Acres nursing home at a significantly low price, but now is also offering at no cost, an additional five-acre parcel to promote the construction of a county government building.
Both parcels of land fall on the east side of County Road 68 (Falcon Avenue) west of Tanger Outlet Center.
In both building projects the Anderson family is requesting that construction start within 2 years and be completed in 3 or the property will revert back to Little Sweden, Inc.
The offer, on the board table now, is good for 30 days.
The commissioners intend to make a decision about accepting the offer at the April 16 board meeting after hearing about bonding options from financial consultants.
