Rural Harris couple faces federal drug charges

A local man and woman face federal drug trafficking charges for allegedly distributing methamphetamine from a rural Harris home and a White Bear Lake apartment.
Jeremy Jon Schultz and Katrina Janette Thielen, both 28, were indicted Aug. 12 by a federal grand jury on charges of conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine and aiding and abetting possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of the drug.
Schultz faces an additional charge of distribution of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine and Thielen faces an additional charge of possession with intent to distribute a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine.
Both show 43700 Amery Avenue as their address.
According to an affidavit filed with the US Attorneyís Office for the District of Minnesota, the investigation into Schultzís and Thielenís alleged drug activity began in March after a confidential informant told Drug Enforcement Agency officers about the couple.
In a July 29 controlled buy operation through the informant, DEA agents arrested Thielen at the apartment she rented at 3900 Hoffman Road in White Bear Lake, the affidavit said.
Later that same day, DEA agents executed a search warrant at the Harris home. In addition to the 29 grams of methamphetamine found on Thielen at the time of her arrest, officers found two ounces of suspected methamphetamine, three ounces of suspected marijuana and about one gram of suspected heroin.
Agents also found equipment to measure and package drugs along with $30,000 in cash.
The next day, agents searched the Hoffman Road apartment and found 1.25 pounds of methamphetamine, an electronic scale and more packaging materials.
The total weight of the drug material found during the searches was about 660 grams.
If they are convicted, Schultz and Thielen face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison on both conspiracy and aiding and abetting possession counts.
