Vivian Johnson Granger
Vivian Johnson Granger of Pine City passed over to God Aug. 14, 2003, at Villa Nursing Home in Mora, Minn. after being there only one week. This followed a stay at Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming, Minn. We are grateful for the wonderful care she received from the loving nurses and doctors at both Villa and Fairview Lakes. Pastor Vicki VanderVegt officiated at the service on Saturday,Aug. 16, 7 p.m. at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City. Casket bearers were Chuck, David, Jim, Derek Weaver, Shawn and Mike Parker with the interment in the Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn. Arrangements were by the Funeral & Cremation Service of Pine City, Minnesota, Swanson Chapel. Vivian was born Nov. 17, 1919 in Minneapolis, Minn. to LaVern and Lavinia Burdick. She had three siblings, LaVern, Lorraine, and Rilla. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in South Minneapolis. She was married in 1937. Vivian raised four children, Vern, Gary, Judy, and Diane. In 1958 Viv suffered lifeís biggest fear when she lost her daughter, Judy, in an automobile accident at a young age of 18. Judy left a husband and one-year-old daughter, Kim. Viv worked at a variety of jobs until settling at Sears, where she took telephone orders from customers. She enjoyed this work and the people she worked with, staying for 27 years until her retirement. Vivian had many friends and enjoyed good times with them and her relatives. Her laugh made others laugh, and many evenings were made more fun because she was there. Viv loved pets, and the family had quite a few over the years. We especially remember ìMuggsy,î ìTiny,î and ìLizzy.î They were lucky animals to have had a life in her home. With every petís passing she would say, ìIíll never have another pet. It hurts too much to loose them.î Yet even last year, she and Jim took a kitten into their home. Godís eyes shined on Viv when, about ten years ago, she renewed an old friendship with Jim Granger. Jim and his first wife, Pat, had been friends with Viv and her first husband many years ago. But this time it was more than friendship, they fell in love. She soon moved to his lovely home in rural Pine City. Jim cured her of her life long fear of wood ticks by simply saying, ìJust take it off!î She took up snowmobiling and ATV riding for the first time at the age of 73 and she loved it! She made good friends with Jimís friends and his children, and she had wonderful years in this evening of her life.
