Dead cyclist found in woods near Wyoming

By Barbara Brown
A Chisago City manís body was found in a wooded area near County Road 22 in Wyoming early Monday morning, according to the Chisago County Sheriffís Office.
The man was identified by the Sheriffís Office as John Sampsel, 48.
According to a Sheriffís Office report, Sampsel apparently had been driving a motorcycle east in the 7300 block of Wyoming Trail (CR22) when the motorcycle entered a curved area of the roadway.
Sampsel may have improperly negotiated the turn and lost control of the motorcycle. The Sheriffís Office report said Sampselís motorcycle hit a road sign and slid into the woods on the south side of the road.
The Sheriffís Office report said the accident might have occurred late Sunday night or early Monday morning.
Sampselís body was found at 7:10 p.m. Monday by a resident of nearby property, according to an accident report.
The report states that the nearby property owner had been on a 4-wheeler trail that is cut out along the edge of his property.
The property owner had been on that path, he told deputies, when he saw the motorcycle and body.
Another neighborís son told deputies that his mother woke around midnight Monday morning to the sound of a loud crash. The woman went to the end of the driveway with a flashlight to investigate, but saw nothing.
Investigation continues through the Sheriffís and the Regional Coronerís offices.
