Rush City hosts invitational; wrestlers earn several medals

Eight wrestling teams from all over Minnesota got a taste of each othersí talents during the Rush City Invitational wrestling tournament last weekend.

Rush City wrestlers earned medals in nearly every every weight class, including a first place for senior Mike Wuorinen at 171.

Mille Lacs took the overall points win with 200, followed by Braham with 190.

Rush City secured third place with 175.5 and Hinckley-Finlayson came in fourth with 162.

Crosby Ironton and Ogilvie were close competition for fifth place, but Crosby took it with 104.5. Ogilvie had 104.

Brooklyn Center scored 85.5 and Frederic (Wisc.) High School was 8th with 49.

ìThis was a great start for the season,î said head coach Kevin Jensen. ìWe had 7 kids in the finals and Rush City led going into the championship round, but we were unable to hold on.î

The team finally took third place and Jensen said he was pleased with the results despite having three open weight classes for Rush City.

The team traveled to Paynesville where they competed Tuesday afternoon in a quad meet with Paynesville, Belgrade, Elrosa and Melrose.

The wrestlers will travel to Big Lake for a tournament on Dec. 12.
