Gene F. Hemmer

Gene F. Hemmer passed away on Dec. 19, 2003 at his home at the age of 72 years, two months and 20 days.

Funeral services for Gene F. Hemmer were held on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the Open Arms Church of God in Grasston with Pastor Mike Flynn officiating. Music was provided by Chris and Marianne Santele. Active pallbearers were Don Rothenbacher, Richard Rooney, Don Fiedler, Kirk Gordon, George Ernst and Adam Hemmer.

Honorary pallbearers were Geneís grandchildren. Interment was in the Rice Lake Lutheran Cemetery.

Gene Francis Hemmer was born on September 29th, 1931 at Brookings, South Dakota to Marlys and Earl Hemmer. He grew up on a farm in Aurora, South Dakota. He married Phyllis Hicks on April 28, 1951 and together they raised five children.

He worked at the Brookings Creamery and farmed in White, South Dakota until moving to Minnesota with his family in 1966. He then worked at the arsenal in New Brighton until it closed. After that he worked at Motek Engineering until his retirement, and drove truck for Don Fiedler preceding his death.

Since his retirement, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Phyllis of Braham, Minn.; five children: Ronald (Debby) Hemmer of Mora; Wayne (Cindy) Hemmer of Braham; Kevin (Denise) Hemmer of Rush City; Blaine (Sandy) Hemmer of Braham; and Cheryl Gorman (Robert) of Cambridge; nineteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; two brothers: Richard Hemmer of Ogilvie and James (Lucy) Hemmer of Stanchfield; one sister: Joan (Roger) Packard of Sturgis, South Dakota and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two granddaughters.
