Opposed to Wyoming annexation

To the editor:

I am writing in response of the hostile annexation of 11,000 acres of Wyoming Township by Chisago City.

First of all, I am opposed to this annexation and for good reason. Chisago City is not financially strong as the council claims it to be. The money to pay the legal fees for this annexation, is coming from the Industrial Park fund. If Iím not mistaken there is approximately $88,000. Not exactly a lot of money is it? The fees for permits and variances have drastically increased. The sewer and water bill recently skyrocketed, as for the utility expansion (sewer, water) along Hwy. 8. The homeowners along Green Lake will be paying approx. $30,000 to $60,000. The city is only paying or the lift station, approx. $160,000. Some homeowners ask about the wac, sac fees, yet no one can get a straight answer from the city council.

If the annexation is granted, property taxes will increase, for more police, fire services. Not a lot of people in Chisago City are aware of the annexation or its future impact to our taxes, nor do they realize who is actually in charge of the city council. Itís not the taxpayers against the township boards request. The Wyoming Township residents are encouraging the people of Chisago County to boycott the businesses in Chisago City in support against the annexation. Iím opposed to this.

Why you may ask? Because many of the businesses have been mistreated by the committees and city council in Chisago City. Thatís why we have had very little business growth. If you want to boycott businesses, boycott the businesses associated with the city council.

The annexation will not benefit our community. It will only benefit the special interest group who run our city and council. Itís time for the Chisago City taxpayers to wake up to reality.
