Benefit to help North Branch resident as he battles disease

A benefit event is planned for Jan. 31 at the Lent Town Hall in Stacy to help keep Roger Remer with his family for as long as possible as he struggles with a terminal illness.

Remer, a life-long resident of the North Branch-Sunrise area, has been diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, a devastating disease of the lungs.
The lungs inflame and scar causing the lungs to harden. Eventually both lungs are overtaken and they are unable to take oxygen on their own.
Remer has not been able to work since September. To keep his health insurance he will have to go on an extended health plan called Cobra, which is very expensive and temporary.

When it is used up, Remer will have to find other resources.

His medication to slow the disease costs $6,000 a month and he will not be able to get this medication if he canít get enough money to pay his insurance.

He will also need oxygen for breathing very soon.

Remer is 54 years old, married to Patty and has one daughter and two grandchildren.

Folks who know him say he is a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend.

They say he has always been there for anyone who needed him.
Now his friends are asking others to help him.

The Jan. 31 benefit is set for 3 p.m. to midnight. Donations are also being accepted for Remer at First National Bank in North Branch and Stacy.
