Tiger boys hoops lose two

The Rush City boys basketball squad fell in two game last week, coming against one conference and one non-conference opponent.

Hinckley-Finlayson came to town Feb. 6 and handed the locals a 67-48 loss. The Jaguars hold first place in the Great River Conference, and Head Coach Gary Dreissig knew it would be a tough game.

ìWe had an excellent first half against the conference leaders. We led by 9 at the first quarter and trailed by one at the half,î he said.

The Jaguars added to a 31-30 halftime lead with 17 in the third, compared to 7 from the Tigers. Hinckely went on to outscore Rush City 19-11 in the fourth for the win.

Kellin Sybrant led the team with 16 points, followed by Joe Prettner with 10 and Brett Dreissig and Tim Karnick with 7 apiece.

Maranatha added to Rush Cityís woes with a 76-45 win over the Tigers Feb. 8.

ìWe had a very difficult time getting our usual shots against a very tall and talented squad,î Dreissig said. ìWe worked very hard but their overall athletic ability was too much for us.î

Kyle Mold had a stellar night for the Tigers, going 9 of 13 from the field and leading the team with 18 points. Prettner picked up 10 in the game.

This week, the team faced Onamia Tuesday and takes on Braham at home Friday.
