RC girls struggle against Onamia

Onamia has always proved a threat to the Rush City girls basketball team, particularly on their home court. A Feb. 4 meeting of the two teams proved to be no exception, as the Tigers suffered its fifth loss of the season in a 46-28 game.

ìThere werenít any highlights,î Head Coach Stuart Lang said. ìWe struggled from beginning to end.î

Maria Kuhlman found herself in foul trouble throughout the game, he said. Lang gives credit to Page Rieland coming in and playing well off the bench. Mindy Scott led the team with 8 points, followed by Christine Moore with 6.

The Tigers bounced back with a 58-44 win Feb. 7 against Braham. It was the second time the Tigers have defeated Braham this season, after six straight years of losses to the Bombers.

Rush City tallied only 18 points in the first half, and then exploded for 40 in the second. As a team, the Tigers totaled 13 steals and caused 23 turnovers in a great defensive showing.

ìWe got off to a sluggish start but overcame offensive struggles and ouscored them through two-and-a-half quarters,î Lang said.

Kuhlman led both teams with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Holly Grimes and Jess Prettner had 10 each. Breann Stottler had a career-high 8 points coming in off the bench.

The teamís record goes to 14-5. The Tigers face Ogilvie Thursday and East Central next Tuesday.
