Responding to Ring letter on Green Acres
To the editor: I donít think anyone would disagree that our facility at Green Acres needs updating. If they do, they havenít been there. I. too, have had experiences with a relative in a nursing home. This facility was exceptional ñ all the bells and whistles ñ a small park and on a highly traveled street. I visited every day and didnít see any traffic watchers. The patients were either enjoying the park, or congregating around the desk. Bored, I donít think so. I think the word was lonely. The question they always asked was, ìAre you coming to see me?î Thatís where we have dropped the ball. Putting the facility in a high traffic area wonít solve the problem. Visiting frequently will. Every hospital is in a high traffic area; yet, we canít wait to come home to a little peace and quiet. Do you think itís different for nursing home residents? I have attended several meetings in which Steve Mork has made presentation. I have talked to others in the business about the pros and cons in moving the facility. They, of course, look at it like a business and I look at it like ñ where would I want to be? The answer is obvious ñ trees, birds, flowers and QUIET! I do agree that it would be nice to have a hospital or clinic close to aid in the comfort of the residents. Maybe we can have our cake and eat it too. Iím sure our new commissioners will look at this carefully before making a decision. Barbara Burrington North Branch
