Water and sewer issues discussed in Stacy
By Barbara Brown Water and sewer concerns continue to take the time of the Stacy City Council and Tuesday night was no exception. After a lengthy discussion, the council agreed to continue researching water and sewer service extension south along CR30 in three parts. The council agreed to allow Bonestroo and Associates to conduct a feasibility study on how best to install water and sewer lines to accommodate newly annexed land that soon will be developed for single-family homes. As part of that feasibility study, the city's engineer, Chuck Schwartz will work with Alan Kretman, an engineer planning the Foxtail Woods development. The two may strike an arrangement that private design of water and sewer extensions ñ rather than city-designed ñ could cost the city less. Also, a third part of the cityís action Tuesday night included a provision that the city, engineers, attorneys and Kretman would take a meeting with a contractor who specializes in assessments and appraisals. That contractor could be able to tell the city specifically how assessments would affect Stacy property owners. The meeting would take place only if Kretmanís clients agreed to pay the $450 fee associated with the meeting. Also at the meeting, the council asked Schwartz to investigate further what financing opportunities are available to pay for a planned water tower and looping system to the west side of the city and look continue to investigate how much growth the cityís water and sewer system can support. More discussion is planned for the next council meeting, Feb. 25.
