RC falls in quarterfinals
Rush City wrestling ended its season last week after the 6A quarter finals competition. The Tigers fell to rival Braham during the Feb. 11 match and ended the day with a final score of 47-18. Following a familiar trend from this season, the team score did not much reflect the Tigers ability to face tough competition. Joey Robinson, 103, got the night started off right with a nail-biter of a match that ended with him pinning Alan Kellin in 5:54. Up to the fall, the score was 8-2 in favor of Robinson. Wrestlers at 112, 119, 125, 130 and 135 weight classes all lost their matches. Zach Sowman came out for the 140 match and beat David LaTourelle with a close 2-1 score. At 145, Tim Morris took a decision win fromm Dan Powell with a score of 7-4. Junior Mike Wuorinen got his 27th win for the season against Jake LeClair, who he pinned in 3:10. The 189, 215 and 275 matches all were losses for the Tigers. Coach Kevin Jensen said the score did not indicate how well the wrestlers are capable of performing. ìWe lost a few key matches,î Jensen said. ìThere were wrestlers I thought for sure were going to win their matches and they didnít. ìBut, sometimes that happens and you move on.î The Tigers will move on this weekend to host 9 other schools for the 6A section individual matches starting Friday at 4 p.m. Jensen said he will especially be watching Pierz, Mille Lacs, Royalton and Braham. ìThere will be a lot of tough competition that day and a lot of really great wrestling.
