Take note of the wisdom of youth
To the editor: In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day I asked students (fifth-graders) to write about their dreams to make the world a better place. While most students expressed concern for our environment and compassion for humanity, I found this piece of writing especially eloquent. I hope your readers will find it equally powerful and share my view that the next generation will lead us into a bright tomorrow. ìMy dream to make the world a better place is to end all conflicts between nations peacefully. I believe that one day there will be no more wars on this earth. I believe that countries will not be torn apart by war, but that their peoples will grow and flourish in peace. One day, I believe that there will be no armies on earth, but instead there will be keepers of peace.î Jake Kolke, age 11. Al Jones North Branch Middle School
