Sunday Night
MaryHelen Swanson, editor

The American flag is at half-staff again. Another national tragedy has broken our hearts. Seven brave astronauts died in the line of duty, pursuing their dreams and working to make our world a better place by pioneering in the heavens beyond our earthís boundaries.
And we are sad.
The families of those seven people are strong, however, they understand that the careers their loved ones chose were dangerous but ones which were fulfilling life-long dreams.
To dream is a wonderful thing. To have that dream come true is extraordinary.
But every day loved ones part and go off to their jobs, whether dream jobs or not.
Men and women stand in busy freeway traffic repairing our roads as impatient drivers rush past them. Deputies and patrolman put their lives on the line when they answer a call to a robbery or assault.
Window washers hang outside of tall buildings. Chemical engineers stir up solutions with toxins and dangerous fumes. Maintenance workers salt and plow icy roads. Fishermen defy angry seas to catch tuna. Energy workers climb poles and hang in baskets to fix broken wires. People work in warehouses and factories where inventories are stacked dangerously high...
You see where Iím going? We may not all be as celebrated in our jobs as astronauts, but each day as we leave home to go to work, thereís the chance we will never see our loved ones again. Even if the element of danger is not in your occupation, there can be other reasons why you never return home.
Therefore, it is important that we never part from loved ones in an angry state. And, it is important to appreciate each worker, man or woman, for the job they do whether in a space craft, a classroom, a county ditch or business office. The Post Review takes a moment today to remember the seven fallen astronauts.
