Thomas M. Seals Jr.
At age 52, Thomas Marion Seals, Jr. died at his home on Jan. 25, 2003. Tom, the son of Thomas, Sr. and Betty (Mitchell) Seals was born Feb. 28, 1950 on the naval base at Pensacola, Florida. Tom, as he was known to his family and friends, was only three months old when he moved with his family to the Twin Cities. Living in the areas of Brooklyn Park and Osseo, Minn., he grew up and attended school there. At age 16, Tom joined the United States Army. Serving his country from May of 1967 to January of 1970 when he received his honorable discharge, he was first stationed in Germany and later volunteered for duty in Vietnam. His tour of duty there was for two years. Leaving home a very young man, Tom returned to Minnesota an old man with many problems to deal with. Tom married and two children were born, Shawn and Melissa. When the marriage ended in divorce, Tom lived alone in St. Cloud, Minn. for many years. Shawn, like his father, became a member of the United States Army, and following his discharge lived with Tom in St. Cloud. About three years ago Tom built a home in rural Rush City, Minn., where he and Shawn lived together. Although he now lived near his parents and other close family members, he continued to feel lonely most of the time and suffered from many medical problems. He is survived by his children, Shawn and Melissa; parents: Tom and Betty Seals, Rush City; sisters and brothers-in-law: Lori Hemmer, Stanchfield, Linda and Bob Lindstrom, Hopkins, Pam and Dennis Fehrman, Cambridge, Yvette Seals, Billings, Mont., Dori and Jason Duren, Rush City; brothers and sisters-in-law: Scott and Cheryl Seals, Mora, Garrett and Robin Seals, Rush City; grandmother: Martha Seals, Elk River; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jason Seals. Funeral service were held Friday, Jan. 31, at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City with Rev. Steve Tischer officiating. Casket bearers were Scott Seals, Garrett Seals, Jason Duren, Bob Lindstrom, Dennis Fehrman, Matthew Fehrman, and David Fehrman. Interment was at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City.
