Tigers place 5th at conference meet

Rush City wrestlers fought the flu and came away from the GRC conference meet on Jan 31 in fifth place.
However, a bright spot in the competition came when junior Mike Wuorinen earned his 60th win as a Tiger wrestler.
ëWe had a goal of placing third at the tournament,î said head coach Kevin Jensen. ìUnfortunately, we didnít reach it.î
Four starters were out with the flu. During competition, Ray Grabau was injured when he was being thrown onto the mat ñ in a legal move ñ and an orbital bone in his face was fractured. Grabau also suffered a concussion. He is expected to be out for the rest of the season.
Individual finishes were:
Joey Robinson, 103, 5th; Richard Marohn, 112, 2nd; Jason Benson, 119, 5th; Tim Allerton, 125, 5th; Matt Wuorinen, 130, 3rd; Adam Morris, 135, 3rd; Zach Sowman, 140, 3rd; Tim Morris, 145, 3rd; MacKenzie Johnston, 152, 5th; Mike Wuorinen, 160, 3rd; Robert Lind, 189, 5th; Scott Witte, 215, 4th.
On Saturday, Rush City traveled to Pine City to face three tough teams.
In a tri-meet against PC, Nashwauk and North St. Paul, Rush City came out on top, going 2-1 for the day.
Final scores were: Rush City 55, Pine City 24; Nashwauk 37, Rush City 33; and Rush City 37, North St. Paul, 31.
Rush City wrestled well throughout, Jensen said. The team may have been able to beat Nashwauk if it hadnít been for the flu and injuries that gave the opponents 18 forfeit points.
Matt Wuorinen, 130, went 3-0 for the day as did junior Tim Morris at 145.
MacKenzie Johnston, a freshman, jumped to the 152 spot and had a good day, going 2-1.
Junior Mike Wuorinen added to his win totals by finishing 3-0 at the end of the day.
ìRight now we feel pretty good with a 7-7 dual meet record,î Jensen said.
The team hosted North Branch Tuesday night and will face Mille Lacs at Onamia on Thursday
