Public input important in comprehensive planning process

To the editor:
Iím writing this letter because when I ran for Chisago County commissioner in District 2, revising the comprehensive plan and zoning ordinances was one of my top priorities. A number of things are happening that indicate to me that now is the time to start the revision to the comprehensive plan and zoning ordinances including the reports on the St. Croix and Sunrise Riversí overlay districts and how they will fit into the comprehensive plan.
Our county is a fast-growing county and we need to take the time now to ask this question. What do we want Chisago County to look like in 10, 20 and 30 years into the future?
We need to include township boards, citizens and county personnel to answer this question. Although the county doesnít do planning and zoning in the cities of the county, their input is important to the revision process.
I plan on proposing a process that will include public input as part of the revision through public meetings. I believe the size of this task will call for a moratorium of some sort, possibly on parcels under 10 acres in the township ag zones of the county.
This would help free up time for the planning commission to work on the revisions.
I will be working with the other commissioners to see that we improve the plan for the long-term growth of our county. You can contact me at (651) 674-7510 or: olseenfour@msn.com.
