Come to the meetings with open minds, says township resident

To the editor:
I applaud Commissioner Montzka for opening a discussion regarding a review of the countyís comprehensive plan. With the incredible growth in our county, this discussion must be held.
It is often the case that our leaders work diligently for months, even years, to discuss and write comprehensive plans for our communities. After all that hard work and countless headaches, it is nauseating for them to think of going back to the table to reopen the plan for changes. But with rapid growth, plans must be analyzed more often than any of us care to think about.
It may be this proposed discussion will cause leaders to make many changes, or it may result in no change at all. The important point is that a much-needed discussion will be held.
I encourage Commissioner Montzka and the other commissioners to invite all citizens to the table for this discussion. Hold public hearings in many locations around our diverse county. Take time to listen to the people. They have great ideas when given the chance to speak and be heard.
I also urge the commissioners to look at our county not as whole, but as a quilt of communities. What might be great for South Chisago Lakes Township, may not work for Rushseba Township. In Lent Township, there are less than a handful of active farmers. Preserving ag land here doesnít have the urgency that it does north of Harris where many families still farm for their bread and butter.
Finally, please come to the discussion without preconceived ideas or agendas. Truly come with an open mind to hear what the citizens of Chisago County want.
