North Branch girls win again

The North Branch girls basketball team is back in the hunt for the Rum River Conference title after picking up two key conference wins last week and extending its win streak to 10 games.
The Vikings defeated Pine City 61-41 Tuesday and then went on to down St. Michael-Albertville 59-37 Thursday.
The Vikes jumped out to a 19-7 first quarter lead against Pine City, behind the aggressive play of seniors Rauna Dallman and Christina Sampson.
North Branch held its lead to finish ahead 36-20 at the half. Both teams played tight defense in the third quarter, as the Vikes held the slight scoring edge 9-5. Pine City came back to score 16 in the fourth quarter, but it was matched by 16 points from the Vikings.
ìI was pleased this week that we finally got our offensive game going a little bit,î Head Coach Dan Schindler said. He was pleased with the solid play of Katie Hasleiet and Jenny Beader off the bench. ìThey both came in and gave us some added energy,î he said.
Dallman led the team in scoring with 17 points, followed by Sampson with 14. Sophomore Jenny Anderson led the team with 7 rebounds.
St. Michael-Albertville came into the game tied with North Branch in second place in the RRC, with only one conference loss.
North Branch took a commanding 15-5 lead after one quarter and never looked back, extending it to 26-15 at halftime and then outscoring St. Michael 14-6 in the third.
ìWe had some chances to be farther ahead in the first half,î Schindler said. ìBut this was our best overall game this year.î
Senior Traci Reimann recorded her best game of the season, coming up with 16 points and 11 rebounds. ìWhen Traci really works hard she is pretty tough to stop,î Schindler said.
Anderson added 10 points and 6 rebounds.
The wins put North Branch in solid possession of second place, only one game behind Chisago Lakes in first place.
This week, the team was scheduled to host Princeton Tuesday and Mora Friday.
