Tigers defeat Ogilvie

The Tigers boys basketball team captured a home win against Ogilvie last Tuesday before falling to East Central on the road in two Great River Conference matchups.
In the 44-39 Ogilvie win, the Rush City defense held the Lions to 2 points in the first quarter, taking a 10-2 early lead. The Tigers led 18-11 at halftime before Ogilvie went on an offensive run and outscored Rush City 16-13 in the third to narrow the lead to 31-27. The Tigers held on to the lead by outscoring the Lions 13-12 in the fourth for the 44-39 win.
The key to the win was the Tigersí defense, controlling the ball and allowing the Lions to pick up only three offensive rebounds.
ìOffensively we struggled,î Head Coach Gary Dreissig said. ìWe shot only 33 percent and committed 24 turnovers, 12 in each half.î
He said it was a good conference win, but also a little disappointing because the team could have performed much better.
Senior Joe Prettner led the offense with 12 points, followed by Kyle Mold with 10, Brett Dreissig and Antione Fields with 6 apiece, Kellin Sybrant with 5 and Tim Karnick and Andrew Kaufmann with 2 each.
Both teams battled for the lead throughout in a 59-53 loss to East Central Friday.
East Central took the slight 13-12 edge after the first quarter, but Rush City regained the lead at 24-22 at halftime.
The Eagles narrowed the Tigers lead to one by the end of the third, at 39-38.
Holding a five-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, the Tigers lost the lead when they werenít able to score on every possession. East Central came back to score 21 points in the quarter for the 59-53 win.
ìIt was a quality high school basketball game between two very similar teams,î Dreissig said. ìWe led the majority of the game, although the biggest lead by either team was the final margin of six points.î
The Tigers had balanced scoring, with three players in double figures: Sybrant with 15, Dreissig with 13 and Prettner with 10. Fields came in with 8 points and Mold recorded 7. Fields and Mold also led the team in rebound with 7 apiece.
Rush City suffered two conference losses the week before against Braham and Aitkin.
In the 63-55 Aitkin loss, Dreissig had 18 points, followed by Prettner with 16 and Mold with 9.
The Tigers are now 5-7 on the season as the squad starts the second half. This week, the team hosts Isle Friday.
