RC boys hoops down Isle
The Rush City boys basketball team fell to Concordia Academy Jan. 23 but bounced back the following day to post a win against Isle in a conference matchup. Against Concordia, the squad faced fierce competition, and was outscored 26-18 in the first quarter. After trailing 48-35 at the half, the Tigers whittled away at the lead but had a poor offensive showing in the fourth, coming up with only eights points to record the 77-57 loss. The key to the loss was Concordia hitting 13 of 23 from behind the arc, for 56 percent for 3-pointers. The Tigers were led offensively by Brett Dreissig with 18 points and Kyle Mold with 15. Joe Prettner added 9 and Kellin Sybrant had 8. The squad came away with a 58-36 win against Isle Jan. 24, playing what Head Coach Gary Dreissig said was its best team game of the year. The Tigers amassed 18 assists, led by Sybrant with 6. The teams were tied 12-all after one quarter before Rush City opened it up with 24 points in the second for a 36-19 lead at the half. The team slumped slightly in the third, scoring only 8 points, but outscored Isle 14-9 in the fourth to seal the win. ìWe still need to improve our consistency on offense,î Dreissig said. ìEight points in the third quarter just isnít good enough.î The teamís leading scorer was Dreissig, with a career-high 34 pointsñ 20 coming in the second quarter alone. Mold added 11 points and Sybrant had 10. The squad holds a 6-8 record overall, 4-4 in the conference. This week, the teamís only game was scheduled for Friday at Aitkin.
