RC boys take down Onamia
By Danielle Strenke Midway through the opening quarter of the Rush City-Onamia boys basketball game last Friday, one look at the scoreboard would have suggested that perhaps the wrong quarter was listed. The Tigers opened the game on fire as the squad quickly built up a 20-6 lead in the first quarter, on the way to a 59-48 win over the Panthers. ìWe had a very good first quarter, scoring 22 points,î Head Coach Gary Dreissig said. ìBut to Onamiaís credit, they picked away at our lead to eventually tie the score in the third quarter.î A strong Onamia defense held the Tigers at bay in the second quarter, as Rush City was able to add only points before the half, for a 28-20 halftime lead. The Panthers outscored the Tigers in the third quarter, 15-10 and managed to tie it up at 33-all with three minutes remaining in the third quarter. Rush City continued to play strong, playing an aggressive offense and coming up with key rebounds to widen the gap once again in the fourth. The squad surpassed the 20-point mark again in the fourth by adding 21 points and sealing the 59-48 win. In the fourth, senior Brett Dreissig led the charge with 8 points, adding to his 18 total points for the game. He also tallied 4 rebounds. Senior Kyle Mold and junior Kellin Sybrant both added 10 points and Mold 8 rebounds and senior Joe Prettner had 8 along with 4 rebounds. Antione Fields added 7 points and 3 rebounds. This week, the team was scheduled to host Aitkin Tuesday and then travels to Braham Thursday.
