Effie O. Danielson
One Sunday, June 29, 2003, Effie O. Danielson, of Harris, died quietly in her sleep at the Cambridge Health Care Center. Pastor Neil Bonkoski officiated at funeral services Wednesday, July 2 at the Harris Covenant Church in Harris. Sharlyn Good sang ìBeyond the Sunsetî and ìSoft and Tenderly.î The congregation sang ìWhen we all get to Heavenî accompanied by organist Jane Erickson. Casket bearers included friends Greg, Brad and Paul Ramberg, Glen and Lyle Holmstrom and Donald Steele with the interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Harris. Funeral arrangements for Effie are with the Funeral & Cremation Service of Rush City Olson Chapel. Effie was born on Feb. 2, 1912 in Harris, Minn. to John and Hilma Danielson. She was one of four children. Effie grew up on the family farm just outside of Harris, she was confirmed at the Harris Mission Church and graduated from the Harris School. As a young lady Effie moved to St. Paul and in 1944 began working for Brown & Bigelow as a secretary and in charge of payroll. Effie talked often about her life there and of her girlfriends and the travels that took them to Florida, California, Las Vegas, Washington, D.C, Chicago, on a cruise and may other places. Effie enjoyed her life in St. Paul and all it had to offer her. After 33 years of working at Brown & Bigelow, Effie retired and moved home to be with her brother, Alton, on the farm in Harris. In January of 1989, when her brother passed away, Effie continued on the farm alone. Depending on neighbors and family to take her places, she loved going to Nelsonís Market to shop and socialize with people from her past that she would run into, always stopping by the Merchant State Bank to talk to Jim Goranson about her finances, a walleye or chicken dinner at the Kaffe Stuga, an occasional trip to Cambridge, and whenever possible, going to the Harris Covenant Church. In April of 2002, at the age of 90, Effie suffered a mild stoke and had to be hospitalized. The stroke left her without her sense of balance and because of that she was no longer able to live independently. On April 11 she entered Cambridge Health Care Center. She loved the people there and the socializing that she could do. She was very happy and called it home. When asked about if she knew Jesus Effie responded by saying that she had gone forward at Sunday School and accepted Jesus into her heart and she still loved him to this day. Effie loved life, and lived it to the fullest. She loved kids and had many around her who loved her too. Effie was a wonderful neighbor and friend. Her wisdom and sharp wit always made for a good conversation. Effie is survived by one brother-in-law, Arnold Johnson and some cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Hilma, her sister and brother-in-law, Ruben and Julia Lundeen, her sister, Myrtle Johnson and brother Alton Danielson
