North Branch - a good place to live
To the editor: The circus is coming to town, not just any circus, the 5 Ring Barnes and Carson Circus. What an opportunity for the family. One night only, Monday July 14, 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., at the future site of Nelsonís Supermarket, just west of Tanger Mall in North Branch. Way to go North Branch Rotary (www.northbranchrotary.org). This is the secondİbig timeİfamily activity they have brought to North Branch. A little over a year ago, they brought the Harlem Ambassadors Show Basketball team here for an incredible evening of show basketball and family entertainment. It is not just the service clubs that have made North Branch a wonderful community to live in. Last Friday Abundant Life Church with the support of the North Branch Ministerial sponsored a Fourth of July celebration that included fireworks, music, food and family style activities in Central Park. We watched the fireworks from our deck and attended the earlier events. Thank you Pastor Kevin and his faithful congregation for blessing our community with such spirit. A couple of weeks earlier, it was the American Legion and the Chamber teaming up to put on Midsummer Days. While Iİlove the parade the best, there were many, many things to do and see, from the carnival in Central Park to dancing, great food and a craft show. I had to go home and create a new garden to accommodate the garden bench I bought at the craft show. And this year, North Branch had its first ìWalk/Runî event as part of Midsummer days, the ìFamily Fun/Walkî thanks to the Perreault Clinic and others that sponsored it. My wife and I even participated in it, an event that I hope grows both in length and participation. I want to thank all those that contributed to our summer festival. Throughout the summer,İyou can attend Thursday night free concerts in the park, brought to us by Community Education and one of a number of local sponsors. There is a wide variety of music to choose, from light classical to blue grass, and everything in between depending on the week. Thanks goes to School District, its Community Education program, and the local sponsors. All of these events, as well as the people, good school district, the Youth Service Bureau, the service clubs, the welcoming churches, convenient shopping, public library and parks, the Sunrise bike trail, nearby county and state parks, historic sites, lakes, neighborhood watch parties, and riverway systems, make North Branch an exceptionally great place to live. Have you visited the new Visitorsí Center at the North West Fur Post historic site, located west of Pine City or the new bed and breakfast owned and operated by the County Historic Society? Later this monthİyou can attendİthe Fairview Hospital Garden Tour,İthe Chisago County Fair, and the Relay for Life at Tanger - the best all night get together in town, followed by North Branchís first National Night Out event. There are so many things going on, it is hard to keep up with all of them. However, lets not forget the people who worked hard to create those summer activities and resources. Better yet, join in the fun and help contribute to their success. Robert G. Walz North Branch
